PWMSA Congratulate the First Woman President of MINERALS COUNCIL SOUTH AFRICA (MCSA) in 131 years Ms Nolitha Fakude

The Progressive Movement of South Africa led by National Convenor Professor Hlengiwe Mkhize greatly congratulates Ms Nolitha Fakude for being elected as the President of MINERALS COUNCIL SOUTH AFRICA (MCSA).

Briefly about newly appointed MCSA President, Ms Nolitha Fakude is not new in the mining industry. She is a former Vice President of Minerals Council and also the chairperson of Anglo American South Africa. As a women leader, Ms Fakude was the first woman President of the Black Management Forum from 2003 to 2006.

She has held various leading positions which include Executive Director at Sasol Limited, Chairman of Sasol Mining, Council Member and Second Deputy Chairman of Human Resources Development Council of South Africa.

Ms Fakude is also actively involved in women’s organisations. She is a member of the International Women’s Forum (IWF) and a Trustee of the Women’s Development Business Trust (WDB). Amongst her numerous achievements includes the 2004 Most Influential Businesswoman by Financial Mail, Impala Platinum Young Entrepreneur Award and the National Honor by the Golden Key Society of the University of Johannesburg.

PWMSA strongly believes that with the appointment of Ms Nolitha Fakude as the MCSA President, through her leadership there will be transformation in the Mining Sector which will lead to the realization of women’s rights and their emancipation in the economy, particularly in this sector. Her appointment is in line with one of PWMSA’s Strategic pillars which is building sustainable and women inclusive economies: Economic Inclusion and Empowerment. This seeks to support the development of women owned and managed enterprises. Activities under this programme are mainly addressing the eradication of “female” poverty and ensure that women progressively move into the mainstream economy.

The Mining Industry is male dominated. Ms Faduke’s leadership would address and dismantle patriarchy and promote equality to ensure that women empowerment and development in the economy is achieved.

We wish President Nolitha Fakude all the best in her new role and strongly believe she will do an outstanding job.
