PWMSA Condemns the Murder of Tazne van Wyk

Media Statement

The Progressive Women’s Movement of South Africa and National Convenor Prof Hlengiwe Mkhize strongly condemns the brutal murder of an eight year old little girl, Tazne van Wyk.

Tazne from Ravensmead, Elsies River, Western Cape is believed to have been kidnapped and later killed by Moehydien Pangaker aged 54, a man who has a history of previously being convicted of culpable homicide, kidnapping and child abuse.

Tazne’s body was found in a storm water pipe outside Worcester. As an organisation we call that all those who have been convicted and found guilty of crimes related to rape, Gender Based Violence and Femicide must receive harsher sentences and should not be release on bail and should never be granted parole until they finish their sentence.

Tazne’s murder is a clear indication that perpetrators of violence should not be released back to the society.

To the family, relatives and friends, we would like to express our sympathy and heartfelt condolences in this difficult period as they mourn the loss of their loved one.
